LASU Alumnus Champions RTEAN Scholarship as Six Students Receive Awards

Education continues to prove its transformative power in shaping individuals and society, a fact exemplified by Comrade Nurudeen Eniafe, an enterprising alumnus of Lagos State University (LASU). Despite initial concerns from the academic community, Eniafe pioneered the establishment of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) LASU branch, ensuring fair transport fares and smooth traffic flow for students on campus and its surroundings.
Speaking with *Daily Independent Online* on Monday, February 10, 2025, during the presentation of ₦100,000 scholarships to six LASU students, Eniafe reflected on his journey.
“I graduated from this great university a few years ago, and as a grateful alumnus, I wanted to give back. That’s how the idea of the RTEAN LASU branch was born—with a commitment to making a difference,” he said.
“This marks the fourth consecutive year of our scholarship program, which started in 2021. Initially, we awarded two students ₦100,000 each. In 2022, the number increased to three, and by 2023 and 2024, we supported four students annually. This year, we are proud to have expanded to six beneficiaries.”
Looking ahead, Eniafe expressed his ambition to increase the scholarship fund. “By God’s grace, our goal for the next edition is to award ₦1 million in total, benefiting 10 students with ₦100,000 each.”
At the event, LASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, represented by Prof. Olufemi Lawal, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences, praised Eniafe’s initiative for its consistency since 2021. She also acknowledged RTEAN’s corporate social responsibility and urged an expansion of the scholarship to benefit more students, particularly from the School of Transport and Logistics.
Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Joel Asaju, representing Prof. Charles Asenime, Dean of the School of Transport and Logistics, commended the initiative while advocating for a broader scholarship reach. Similarly, Dr. Abiodun Fatai-Abatan, Acting Dean of Student Affairs, lauded the program, emphasizing that “you can’t have too much of a good thing,” and reiterated LASU’s openness to impactful initiatives.
The six recipients of the 2025 RTEAN Scholarship Award include:
– Julius Adeyemi Michael
– Ojo AnuOluwapo
– Mafimisebi Elizabeth
– Victor Oluwaferanmi
– Raheem Mujahideen
Beyond scholarships, Eniafe revealed that RTEAN sponsors JAMB (UTME) forms for 300 candidates annually across LASU, Iba, Iyana Iba, and surrounding areas. Additionally, the association provides stipends for students from the School of Transport and Logistics undergoing compulsory industrial training.
With its continued support for students, RTEAN LASU remains committed to fostering educational opportunities and easing financial burdens for undergraduates.
