When I die, 25% of my wealth will go to my foundation’: Dangote gives out quarter of his wealth

Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, has pledged a quarter of his wealth to the Aliko Dangote Foundation, cementing his legacy as one of the continent’s most influential philanthropists.

Dangote announced in Lagos on Thursday during the launch of the Foundation’s new education initiative. He explained that his mother and three children had already signed off on the arrangement to ensure continuity should anything happen to him.

“My mother and my three children have already signed off on this deal should anything like death happen to me,” he said, underscoring the permanence of the commitment.

Dangote revealed plans for a ₦100bn investment in 2026 to support 155,009 learners across Nigeria.

He also pledged ₦590m annually to sustain the school for orphan girls in Maiduguri, promising that the support would continue “as long as the school remained in existence.”

The Aliko Dangote Foundation, established years ago, has become one of Africa’s largest private charitable organisations. With this new commitment, Dangote is positioning education at the centre of his philanthropic vision.

The gesture could reshape access to learning opportunities for thousands of disadvantaged children, particularly in northern Nigeria.
