VIDEO: Tearful Moment Sola Sobowale Kneels to Thank Adebayo Salami for Shaping Her Career

Veteran actress Sola Sobowale moved the audience at the premiere of Her Excellency as she knelt in heartfelt gratitude to industry icon Adebayo Salami, popularly known as Oga Bello, for his pivotal role in her career.

The touching scene unfolded on Sunday, June 29, during the premiere of Salami’s new film, held in celebration of his 60-year milestone in Nollywood. Her Excellency is set to hit cinemas on Friday, July 4.

Taking the stage to pay tribute, Sobowale praised Salami’s selflessness and profound influence on her life.

“God used him to place me where I am today. I have never done this before, but I will do it now,” she declared emotionally before kneeling.

“Ese modupe. I thank you deeply from the bottom of my heart. You didn’t only impact me, but so many others—men, women, young, old, living, and gone. You are truly selfless.”

She continued, “You are a man of action and substance, a generous giver. Thank you.

One thing I’ve long wanted to say: Mama Wale—thank you. You stood by him, and that’s why he stands tall today. You will reap the rewards of your support.”

Femi Adebayo, Salami’s son and fellow actor, shared the video on Instagram, describing the moment as beyond performance or spectacle.

“In a moment that transcended the lights, cameras, and glamour of last night’s premiere, Sola Sobowale knelt—not for drama, but for genuine, undiluted gratitude,” he wrote.

“She honoured a man who wasn’t just an actor but a builder, mentor, and guide to many, including herself. It was more than a thank you—it was a tribute to a lifetime of selfless service and a legacy that continues to inspire.”
