UNILAG bans skitmakers, filmmakers from using campus for video productions

The management of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, has announced a ban on the unauthorised use of its campus, including hostels and other facilities, for video production by skitmakers, filmmakers, and content creators.

In a statement released on Thursday and signed by the institution’s Head of Communication Unit, Adejoke Alaga-Ibraheem, UNILAG expressed concern over the growing trend of individuals using its premises for skits, films, and other video content without due approval.

According to the statement, the decision aims to protect the integrity of the university’s academic environment and safeguard its image from being misrepresented in unregulated or inappropriate content.

“The attention of the University of Lagos Management has been drawn to the increasing use of the University premises, including hostels and other facilities, for shooting of films/videos (skits, vox pop, etc.) and cinematographic activities, without appropriate authorization,” the statement read in part.

“The University has established procedures guiding the use of its premises and environment for any form of recording or content production. These procedures are designed to ensure safety, decorum, and integrity of our academic and residential spaces, as well as protect the image and reputation of the University.”
