Six killed, nine injured in Lekki–Epe Expressway accident

A fatal crash at Ibeju Bus Stop along the Lekki–Epe Expressway on Sunday claimed six lives after a truck collided with a commercial bus.

According to reports, nine passengers — three men and six women — sustained varying injuries, while four others escaped without harm from the wreckage.

Confirming the incident, the Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment Department of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq, disclosed that the deceased included two adult males, three adult females, and a child.

Preliminary findings showed that the accident occurred when a blue Volvo FL6 truck, carrying wooden planks, rammed into a white commercial bus with registration number AKD 336 YD.

“The nine injured victims were rescued by LASTMA officials with the support of emergency responders and rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Epe, and Hammond Hospital for urgent treatment,” Taofiq said.

LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, extended condolences to the affected families and decried the recurring menace of reckless driving on Lagos highways.

He warned motorists against overspeeding, stressing that “speed thrills but kills,” and urged drivers to obey traffic rules, avoid distractions, and remain vigilant, particularly during the Ember Months — a period historically marked by increased road accidents.
