Seme Customs confiscate 10 trailers of smuggled rice, arrest notorious smuggler
THE Seme Border Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Tuesday said it seized a total of 6,467 bags of foreign par-boiled rice equivalent to 10 trailers just as a notorious smuggler that has been terrorising the Seme border area.
Speaking to Newsmen, the command’s Customs Area Comptroller, Controller Timi Bomodi said that the command has continued to sustain the tempo in the area of revenue generation as it recorded a 272 percent increase in the first quarter of 2024 as a total of N2.6billion as against
The command according to Bomodi also processed about 143,486 metric tons of export produce valued at N35.1billion between January and February of 2024.
He said that the command’s anti-smuggling unit sustained its fight against trade infractions as it recorded a total of 474 interceptions of various contraband items within the period under review.
He said: “Our enforcement unit sustained its anti-smuggling momentum in all nooks and crannies of the command. This onslaught translated into 474 interceptions of various contraband items within the period under review some of which include 12, 488 jerry cans of 30 of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, equivalent to 8 tanker loads, 15 used vehicles, 1,251 parcel of Cannabis Sativa, 20 live parrots, 404 live tortoises, two Pelican birds and two Honey badgers.”
He also disclosed that a total of 18 suspects were arrested in connection with the seizures.
