Rivers Police caution women: Failing to show up after collecting transport fare is a crime

The Rivers State Police Command has cautioned young women that taking transport money from men without keeping the agreed appointment constitutes a criminal offence.
Police spokesperson, Grace Iringe-Koko, gave the warning in a video shared on her Facebook page, noting that such behaviour could lead to arrest and prosecution under Section 419 of the Criminal Code.
“Why would you collect transport fare from a man without seeing him? It is an offence. Obtaining money under false pretence, 419, is punishable. I’m here to share this information because I’m your number one bestie,” she said.
Iringe-Koko explained that offenders risk up to three years’ imprisonment if reported and convicted, as the act falls under “obtaining money by false pretence.”
