Police arrest man posing as ‘Obi of Lagos’

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 65-year-old man who falsely presented himself as the ‘Obi of Lagos’ during an unauthorised installation ceremony.

The command’s deputy spokesperson, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, confirmed the arrest in a statement on Wednesday, adding that three accomplices aged 41, 51, and 65 were also detained.

According to Oluseyi, the suspect, an indigene of Obodoukwu Ancient Kingdom in Ideato North Local Government Area of Imo State, had planned with his group to unveil a N1.5 billion “Palace of Obi of Lagos State” on Saturday at Apple Hall, Amuwo Odofin.

He explained that the police, acting on intelligence, sealed off the venue to prevent any breach of peace and to protect members of the public from being deceived. Security operatives, including the Eko Strike Force and other tactical teams, were deployed to ensure the ceremony did not hold.
