Pedri sidelined with hamstring tear as Barcelona’s injury list grows

Barcelona midfielder Pedri faces another spell on the sidelines after suffering a hamstring tear, adding to the club’s mounting injury problems.

The Spanish club confirmed on Wednesday that the 22-year-old sustained a tear in the distal biceps femoris muscle of his left thigh — part of the hamstring group. However, no specific recovery period was provided, with Barcelona stating that “the player’s recovery will determine his return to action.”

Pedri, who had featured in 41 consecutive matches for Barcelona and missed just one of Hansi Flick’s 73 games in charge, was already set to miss the next La Liga clash against Elche due to a red card received in the 2–1 defeat to Real Madrid.

Since joining Barcelona from Las Palmas in 2020 at age 17, Pedri has made 215 appearances across all competitions. He has, however, endured a series of hamstring problems, including one that kept him out for over three months between September 2021 and January 2022.

He now joins a growing injury list that includes Gavi, Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha, Dani Olmo, Joan Garcia, and Marc-André ter Stegen. Barcelona currently sit second in La Liga, five points behind leaders Real Madrid.
