Turkish giants Galatasaray have announced that Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has started treatment for a muscle strain accompanied by internal bleeding, following an MRI scan conducted at the club’s Acıbadem International Hospital in Istanbul.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the club confirmed that Osimhen picked up the injury during Nigeria’s 4–3 penalty shoot-out loss to DR Congo on Sunday.
The statement read:
“Following the MRI examination carried out today at our sponsor hospital, Acıbadem, our player Victor Osimhen has been diagnosed with a moderate strain (strain with bleeding) in his left posterior muscle, and treatment has commenced.”
Medical experts explain that a strain affects a muscle or tendon—tissue connecting muscle to bone—and often leads to small blood vessel damage, causing internal bleeding or bruising. Such soft-tissue injuries typically occur due to overstretching or overuse.
However, Osimhen had earlier played down concerns upon arriving in Turkey on Tuesday, telling A Spor: “My condition is not serious.”
The Nigerian forward has been in exceptional form for Galatasaray this season, scoring nine goals across all competitions, including six in the UEFA Champions League.
