Opay partners with LASU to award ₦60m scholarships to 20 students

Opay Digital Services Limited has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lagos State University (LASU) to provide ₦60 million worth of scholarships to 20 students over the next 10 years.

The agreement, announced on Wednesday via the university’s official WhatsApp channel, was formalised during a signing ceremony held on Monday at LASU’s Senate Chamber, Ojo campus.

The initiative, implemented under the LASU-SDG in collaboration with the university’s Directorate of Advancement, aims to promote academic excellence and support financially challenged students.

LASU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, commended Opay for its generosity, describing the scholarship as a significant boost to the university’s mission of empowering bright and deserving students.

Opay CEO, Elizabeth Wang, said the company’s investment in education forms part of its long-term corporate social responsibility agenda focused on youth empowerment. She added that Opay would continue to support educational partnerships and offer internship opportunities to LASU students.

Wang also reaffirmed that the scholarship scheme, which began in 2018, reflects the company’s commitment to financial inclusion and social impact through technology.

The MoU was jointly signed by Prof. Olatunji-Bello and Wang, along with senior university officials, including Registrar Emmanuel Fanu, Deputy Vice-Chancellors Professors Oseni Afisi and Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin, and Directors Professors Tayo Ajayi and Rafiu Okuneye.
