Olamide Describes Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy as ‘Troublesome Friends’

Nigerian rap legend Olamide, popularly known as Baddo, has playfully described fellow Afrobeats stars Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy as his “troublesome friends,” stressing that their friendship remains intact despite occasional disagreements.

Speaking on the Afrobeats Podcast with Adesope Olajide, which aired Monday on YouTube, Olamide offered rare insight into his relationship with the “big four” of Afrobeats.

“Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy are all my friends; they’re just too troublesome,” he said in Yoruba with a smile. “They’re cool guys, but sometimes we don’t align on certain things — and that’s perfectly fine.”

Olamide also shared the story behind his recent collaboration with Wizkid on Kia. He revealed that their joint effort happened unexpectedly while they were filming the video.

“It was just supposed to be Kia. While we were on set, I played Wiz some songs from my album, and he heard Billionaire’s Club, which I had recorded only the day before. He immediately connected with it and wanted to jump on it right away,” Olamide recounted.

Grateful for Wizkid’s support, he added, “God bless Wiz. That’s a solid dude right there — his love and support mean a lot to me.”

The conversation went beyond friendships, delving into Olamide’s decade-plus career, which boasts over ten projects, global tours, and collaborations — including a recent record with hip-hop icon Dr. Dre.

As a label executive, Olamide has played a crucial role in shaping the Afrobeats scene by discovering and nurturing talents like Fireboy DML, Lil Kesh, Adekunle Gold, Young Jonn, and Asake.

Reflecting on his success, he credited his faith as a key factor:
“Whatever you want to be in life, don’t joke with God. Nothing extraordinary can happen if the universe doesn’t align for you. People shouldn’t underestimate what God’s blessings and grace can do.”

He also opened up about how his early struggles inspired him to create opportunities for others.
“I grew up hoping for chances that never came. So I promised myself that if I ever made it big, I’d create opportunities for others,” he said.
