Nationwide SIM Service Disruption as NIMC Switches to New Platform — ALTON

The Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria (ALTON) has announced a temporary disruption of SIM-related services across all mobile networks in the country.

In a joint statement issued on Tuesday by ALTON Chairman, Mr. Gbenga Adebayo, and Publicity Secretary, Mr. Damian Udeh, the group explained that the disruption is due to a directive from the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) to transition to a new identity verification platform.

According to Adebayo, the migration has presented unforeseen technical difficulties, leading to nationwide interruptions in services such as SIM swaps, replacements, and new registrations.

“The new platform is designed to enhance the integrity and efficiency of the identity management system,” he stated. “However, the transition has temporarily prevented Mobile Network Operators from delivering seamless SIM-related services.”
