‘Na passion dey make us support’ — Nigerians blast Super Eagles despite win over Lesotho

Nigerians have expressed mixed reactions to the Super Eagles’ narrow 2-1 victory over Lesotho in Friday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier.
The win gave Nigeria a boost in their qualification hopes, with the return of key players Victor Osimhen and William Troost-Ekong strengthening the squad. Coach Eric Chelle fielded a solid lineup, and the Eagles started brightly as Moses Simon troubled the Lesotho defence early on. However, the visitors’ organized backline kept Nigeria from scoring in the first half.
Osimhen came close to opening the scoring in the 38th minute but was denied by goalkeeper Sekhoane. The breakthrough came early in the second half when Lesotho’s Motlomelo Mkwanazi handled the ball in the box, allowing Troost-Ekong to calmly convert the resulting penalty.
Nigeria doubled their advantage in the 80th minute after Osimhen set up Akor Adams, who finished neatly to make it 2-0. Lesotho, however, pulled one back late on when Hlompho Kalake took advantage of a defensive error to beat goalkeeper Stanlee Nwabali.
Although the Super Eagles secured the win, many fans on social media were unimpressed with the team’s performance.
Reacting on X, @RoRoFli wrote, “Forget this win against Lesotho, shey na the Super Eagles wey wan go World Cup be this?”
@ChumaNnoli commented, “Struggling to beat Lesotho and barely winning shows how far we’ve fallen. This same team lost 4-0 to Benin and 3-0 to South Africa last month. The Super Eagles need serious improvement.”
@stiny4all added, “We need to do more than better. Other countries are improving, and we’re not.”
@IgelleV joked, “I don wash my hands commot from their matter. I can’t support Super Eagles and Man United at the same time.”
