My Husband Is Confronting Darker Forces Than Nelson Mandela Faced’ — Nnamdi Kanu’s Wife

Uchechi Kanu, wife of the detained leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, says her husband is battling forces even “darker” than those encountered by the late South African anti-apartheid icon, Nelson Mandela.

She argued that Kanu is not a terrorist but “Africa’s greatest freedom fighter.”
In a post on X, she wrote:

“Nelson Mandela fought in an arena (apartheid) with people who, despite the brutality, were still amenable to reasoning. Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, however, fights in an arena against forces far darker.”

She added that Igbo youths and students continue to show solidarity with him, insisting that he leads millions of Biafrans under the IPOB umbrella.

Acknowledging that her husband is not without flaws, Uchechi said, “He loves his people, and his people love him. Many are willing to protect him with their last breath.”

Kanu is currently serving a life sentence at the Sokoto Custodial Centre after being convicted by Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja on terrorism-related charges linked to his campaign for a sovereign Biafra.
