LASU Suspends Exams, Orders Students to Vacate Campus Amid Ongoing JAC Strike

Lagos State University (LASU) has directed all students to vacate the campus and postponed the 2024/2025 Second Semester Examinations following the ongoing industrial action by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of staff unions.

The decision was reached during a virtual Senate meeting held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, where the university leadership reviewed the situation stemming from the strike declared by JAC on Thursday, July 31. The unions involved include the LASU chapters of ASUU, NASU, SSANU, and NAAT.

According to the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, the key demands of the striking unions are primarily addressed to the Lagos State Government. The university management has been actively involved in facilitating dialogue between the parties in recent weeks.

A high-level meeting, chaired by the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr. Olabode Agoro, was held on Friday, August 1, at Alausa, Ikeja. Attendees included representatives of the university, the unions, and relevant state ministries. It was agreed that discussions would continue, with a follow-up meeting scheduled for Thursday, August 7.
