Last Chance: JAMB Fixes Date for Mop-Up UTME Amid Massive Crackdown on Cheaters and Rogue Centres

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced that the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) Mop-Up Test will take place on Saturday, June 28, 2025. Eligible candidates can begin printing their exam notification slips from Monday, June 23, 2025.
This mop-up exam offers a final opportunity for candidates who missed the main UTME or its rescheduled version due to technical issues, biometric failures, or absence. In total, 96,838 candidates have been shortlisted to take the exam across 183 approved centres nationwide. Others are on standby, awaiting possible openings.
Who Qualifies?
The mop-up exam is exclusively for:
•5,096 Spill-Over Candidates affected by power outages, network failures, or other technical disruptions during the earlier UTME dates.
•Candidates who could not undergo biometric verification, which is essential to prevent impersonation.
•91,742 Absentees from the main or rescheduled UTME. JAMB emphasizes that this is their last chance to sit for the 2025 exam.
Centres Sanctioned for Malpractice
JAMB has penalized 113 CBT centres for various offences including aiding cheating, impersonation, illegal charges, and use of faulty equipment. These centres have either been delisted or suspended, and some are under police investigation. Affected candidates will be reassigned to nearby towns.
Security Tightened to Stop Exam Malpractice
JAMB, in collaboration with the SSS, Police, and NSCDC, has ramped up efforts to clamp down on exam cheats. Numerous arrests have been made, targeting:
•Professional exam takers
•Compromised JAMB officials
•School owners and tutorial operators involved in malpractice rings
JAMB warns that no one will be spared—even underage students or those helped by parents will be held accountable.
Warning to Professional Impersonators
The Board is on high alert to catch impersonators—often university students—who write UTME for others. Specially trained invigilators and security personnel will be deployed to detect and apprehend culprits. Offenders face expulsion from school and prosecution under the Examination Malpractice Act of 1999.
Banned Exam Towns
Some exam towns have been blacklisted due to ongoing investigations. Candidates originally posted to these areas will be reassigned to other towns. JAMB appeals for patience as these changes are in the interest of fairness.
Tips to Prepare for the Exam
1.Print Your Slip Early: From June 23, print your slip showing date, time, venue, and instructions.
2.Arrive Early: Be at the CBT centre by 6:30 AM or 7:00 AM for proper verification.
3.Obey Exam Rules: No phones, calculators, writing papers, or talking. Offenders will be penalized.
A Message from the Minister of Education
The Hon. Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, CON, reaffirmed the government’s stand on eliminating exam malpractice. He declared a nationwide “War on Exam Cheats,” fully backed by JAMB.
