The Lagos State Government has begun a clampdown on street begging, arresting 15 beggars during an enforcement operation carried out on Thursday morning, November 14, in the Ikosi Ketu and Mile 12 areas.
State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the development via his X handle, stating that the operation is part of efforts to maintain order, ensure public safety, and prevent the misuse of public spaces.
He added that the government will continue enforcing relevant laws while collaborating with social welfare agencies to support rehabilitation where needed.
“Lagos must remain safe, clean, and orderly for all who live and work here,” Wahab stated.
A video capturing the raid was shared along with his announcement.
