JUST IN: WAEC Moves to Recruit ICT-Literate Teachers for 2026 Computer-Based WASSCE

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has directed secondary school principals across Nigeria to submit lists of computer-savvy teachers who will serve as proctors for the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
In a memo signed by Mrs. I.P. Kalu, Officer-in-Charge, WAEC disclosed that the Federal Government has approved the conduct of the 2026 WASSCE as a fully Computer-Based Examination (CBE), hence the need for trained teachers with ICT competence to supervise the process.
According to the directive, nominated teachers must:
•Be qualified teachers or Education Officers of GL09 and above.
•Have between 3 to 5 years of teaching or administrative experience in the education sector.
•Possess ICT literacy and experience in computer-based tests (CBT).
•Fall within the age bracket of 30 to 55 years.
•Be physically and mentally fit, with proven integrity and no history of exam malpractice.
Additionally, teachers must be recommended by their principals or competent authorities and remain available throughout the examination period, with readiness to travel if required.

The Council stressed that the integrity of the 2026 digital examination process depends heavily on the quality and trustworthiness of the teachers selected.
