The new Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly this morning has confirmed that the impeachment of Hon. Rita Maduagwu stands.
In an interview with 9jareporters this morning, the Speaker; Rt. Hon. Ikem Uzoezie confirmed that Hon. Rita’s impeachment is as a result of her highhandedness, embezzlement of funds meant and provided for maintenance of the House of Assembly and general incompetence. According to the new Speaker, Hon. Rita is at the moment making efforts to reach out to members but the resolution of the House remains.
9jareporters gathered that Hon. Rita has been calling members of the House frantically to secure support and see if there is any hope of upturning her impeachment. Rt. Hon. Ikem alleged that sometimes there is no water in the House, no light and that the complex is unkept, even the entrance door to the main building is supported by stone. A situation he described as very shameful and an all time low in the history of the Assembly.
Rt. Hon. Ikem Uzoezie who maintained that Hon. Rita not only is incompetent but also represents herself and not the House of Assembly. The Speaker also dismissed all insunuations that the Governor or the executive is the main target of the former speaker’s impeachment.
In his words, “the House of Assembly has no problem at all with the governor or the executive arm. Rita’s impeachment is purely the resolution of House members who are completely tired of her embarrassing level of incompetence”.
Recall that this morning, Channels Tv featured the Majority Leader of the House; Hon. Victor Okoye who spoke extensively explaining the impeachment of the former Speaker. Hon. Uche Okafor; member representing Anyamelum LGA, one of the three members trying to shout down the impeachment process yesterday, but later suspended by the Speaker, was later featured and he struggled for points to explain that there was no impeachment.
We have also gathered that yesterday, the Governor; Chief Willie Obiano called and congratulated Rt. Hon. Ikem Uzoezie on his emergence as the new Speaker of the House.
The Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Ikem Uzoezie said that the House is sitting tomorrow and that he will be presiding over the House as the Speaker.
