Hakimi, Chebbak outshine Osimhen, Ajibade to win 2025 CAF awards
Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi was crowned African Men’s Player of the Year on Wednesday, capping a stellar season in which he lifted the UEFA Champions League with Paris Saint-Germain.
The 27-year-old added a fourth Ligue 1 title, the French Cup and the UEFA Super Cup to his achievements last season, although PSG fell short in the Club World Cup final, where Hakimi settled for a runners-up medal in New York.
The right-back beat former winners Mohamed Salah of Liverpool and Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen to secure the award for the first time.
“It’s a great honour to be here today, and I’m proud to receive such a prestigious trophy,” Hakimi said, expressing gratitude to his family, teammates and Morocco coach Walid Regragui.
Despite nursing a severe ankle sprain, Hakimi is expected to lead hosts Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations beginning December 21, as the Atlas Lions attempt to lift the trophy for the first time since 1976.
In the women’s category, Morocco’s Ghizlane Chebbak claimed the African Women’s Player of the Year award, edging compatriot Sanaa Mssoudy and Nigeria’s Rasheedat Ajibade.
