Four Senior US House Democrats Ask President Biden To Withdraw From Presidential Race
Representative Richard Neal of Massachusetts voiced strong support for President Biden, citing his past victory over Trump and expressing confidence in a repeat success in November.
Four senior House Democrats, namely Representatives Jerry Nadler, Mark Takano, Adam Smith, and Joe Morelle, urged President Joe Biden to drop out of the presidential race during a Zoom meeting with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries on Sunday.
According to sources familiar with the meeting, the lawmakers expressed their concerns about Biden’s recent debate performance and believe he should step aside, as reported by CBS News.
Additionally, Representatives Jim Himes, Don Beyer, and Jamie Raskin have also voiced concerns about President Biden’s chances in the election.
Although initial reports indicated Beyer’s withdrawal of support, he clarified his stance on Sunday, reaffirming his endorsement of President Biden.
Following the meeting’s public disclosure, Beyer released a statement reiterating his support for the Biden-Harris ticket and emphasising his commitment to defeating Donald Trump in the November elections.
According to CBSNews, all the lawmakers mentioned have confirmed the discussions regarding their concerns about President Biden’s candidacy and some calling for him to drop out of the race.
In response to the leaked conversations, Representative Susan Wild of Pennsylvania admitted to sharing concerns about Biden’s electability, which reflects the sentiments of many across the country. Wild stressed the value of having candid and confidential discussions within the diverse Democratic Caucus to inform their decisions moving forward.
