Fire damages sections of 23-room hotel in Kwara
A fire that broke out at dawn on Tuesday almost destroyed the popular Ebunlomo Hotel and Resort in Ilorin, Kwara State.
Operatives of the Kwara State Fire Service were able to contain the blaze before it spread to the hotel’s 23-room lodging area.
According to PUNCH Metro, the fire began around 5:07 a.m. and affected the bar and an adjoining store.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Fire Service spokesperson, Hassan Adekunle, said firefighters responded swiftly and “executed a coordinated strategy that stopped the fire from spreading.”
He explained that preliminary investigations indicated the blaze was caused by a power surge that ignited the bar and store.
Adekunle noted that the rapid intervention of firefighters prevented what could have been an extensive loss of property.
The Director of the service, Prince Falade John, urged hotel operators and residents to adhere to electrical safety practices.
He advised all commercial and residential buildings to install surge protectors and functional circuit breakers.
John further stressed the importance of routine electrical inspections, saying early detection and sound safety measures are vital in preventing destructive fires.
