FG introduces new curricula for basic and secondary schools

The Federal Government has rolled out revised curricula for basic, senior secondary, and technical education, designed to ease content overload and improve learning quality.
The new system will take effect from the 2025/2026 academic session.
Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, the Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Sai’d Ahmad, said the review was carried out in partnership with the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC), Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC), National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and other stakeholders.
“The new framework balances subject load with deeper, more practical learning,” a statement issued yesterday by the ministry’s Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, stated.
Under the revised plan, pupils in Primary 1–3 will take 9–10 subjects, while Primary 4–6 will offer 10–12. Junior Secondary students will study 12–14 subjects, Senior Secondary 8–9, and technical schools 9–11.
