Federation Cup: Governor AbdulRazaq Rewards Kwara United Players with N5m and Land

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Monday hosted players of Kwara United Football Club and their U-19 team in celebration of their recent victories in the 2025 President Federation Cup and the maiden National Youth League, respectively.
This was made known in a statement released by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye.
Kwara United clinched the Federation Cup title after a dramatic 4-3 penalty shootout win over second-division side Abakaliki FC.
During a reception held in Ilorin, Governor AbdulRazaq announced that each member of the senior team would receive N5 million and a plot of land at the Kwara Smart City, in recognition of their mind blowing achievement.
“This is the most prestigious football trophy in Nigeria—more significant than the League Cup,” he said. “It predates the Nigerian League itself, and today, it belongs to Kwara State. I congratulate everyone who made this a reality.”
The Governor reflected on the state of the club when he assumed office in 2019, noting the transformation it has undergone since then.
“When we took office in 2019, the club was struggling, with players being owed salaries. But today, things have changed for the better,” he added.
He dedicated the trophy to the memory of the late Alhaji Yusuf Salami, who spent his personal resources trying to bring the title to Kwara, albeit unsuccessfully.
“May Allah grant him Aljannah Firdaus,” he prayed.
The reception, held at the Banquet Hall in GRA, Ilorin, followed a victory parade across the city—from Eiyenkorin to the event venue—as residents lined the streets to celebrate with the team.
Notable attendees included Chairperson of the House Committee on Sports, Rukayat Shittu; Shawo/Essa Constituency representative, Yusuf Abdulwaheed Gbenga; Deputy Chief of Staff, Princess Olubukola Babalola; Chairman of the Kwara State Sports Commission, Coach Bola Magaji; Kwara United Chairman, Kumbi Titiloye; and the Chairman of the Kwara State Football Association, Malam Abdullahi Musa Thuraya.
