#FearlessOctober1 Protest: Sowore spotted amongst protesters in Lagos

Omoyele Sowore, former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has joined the ongoing protest in Lagos.

As one of the main organizers, Sowore arrived at the protest site under the Ikeja Underbridge around 8:50 a.m. on Tuesday.

The protest, coinciding with Nigeria’s 64th Independence Day, drew a crowd of demonstrators at Ikeja Underbridge, where they expressed their grievances. Held under the banner #FearlessOctober1, the protest is taking place amid heightened security, with a strong presence of law enforcement officers.

The demonstration is being closely monitored by a significant number of security personnel, including police officers, members of the Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps, and officials from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Civil society groups, including the Take It Back Movement, the Education Rights Campaign, the Coalition for Revolution, and the Socialist Workers League, are at the forefront of this protest.

According to reports that this protest marks the second mass demonstration in two months, as Nigerians express their anger over the country’s declining economic situation.

The organisers noted that the #FearlessOctober1 protest is a direct extension of the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations staged between August 1 and 10.

The organisers pointed out that the protest was a response to the government’s inability to address critical problems, including rising hunger, inflation, security concerns, government inefficiency, electoral reforms, and the call for stronger human capital development.
