EPL: Sunderland Stun Chelsea with Dramatic Late Winner at Stamford Bridge
Sunderland pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the Premier League season on Saturday, October 25, 2025, as they defeated Chelsea 2–1 at Stamford Bridge, thanks to a stoppage-time winner from Chemsdine Talbi.
The match started brightly for the hosts, with Alejandro Garnacho firing Chelsea ahead in the 4th minute after a clever assist from Pedro Neto. The early goal looked to have set the tone for a comfortable evening in west London.
However, Sunderland fought back impressively and drew level in the 22nd minute through Wilson Isidor, who capitalized on a defensive lapse to slot home the equalizer.
Both sides went into the break at 1–1, and although Chelsea dominated possession in the second half, they struggled to create clear chances. The introduction of young star Estevão for Garnacho in the 58th minute failed to change the rhythm of the game.
Sunderland, meanwhile, continued to grow in confidence. Manager’s tactical substitutions paid off late in the match when Talbi, who replaced Bertrand Traoré in the 65th minute, snatched the winner deep into added time (90+3’) with a composed finish that left the home fans stunned.
