Enugu Governor, Lawmakers, and Cabinet Set to Join APC on Tuesday

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced that Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, will formally defect from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling party on Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in Enugu.
Speaking with journalists shortly after being sworn in at the APC National Secretariat on Friday, the newly appointed Enugu State APC Caretaker Chairman, Dr. Ben Nwoye, confirmed that Governor Mbah’s defection will be accompanied by several lawmakers and top political figures across the state.
According to Nwoye, the governor’s move marks a major political shift in Enugu’s landscape. “For the past 10 years, Enugu State has remained in opposition. But all that will change on Tuesday, October 14, when the governor officially declares for the APC,” he said.
He added that Mbah would not be joining the party alone. “The governor will be coming in with 260 ward councillors, 24 members of the House of Assembly, members of the National Assembly, and the entire State Executive Council,” Nwoye revealed.
Earlier, the APC National Chairman, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, and the Deputy National Chairman (South), Emma Eneukwu, inaugurated a seven-member caretaker committee for the party in Enugu, emphasizing the leadership’s commitment to strengthening the APC’s foothold in the South-East region.
PUNCH Online earlier reported that the APC had, on Wednesday, dissolved the Enugu State Executive Committee to clear the way for Governor Mbah’s official entry into the party.
During the inauguration, Prof. Yilwatda urged the caretaker committee to rebuild and expand the party’s membership base in the state while retaining existing members who had worked to sustain it.
He said, “We know the challenges before us — the need to rebuild, refocus, and grow the party. Expansion in membership must not come at the expense of those who have laboured to keep the party alive. Everyone — old and new — must be treated with honour and fairness.”
Reaffirming the APC’s inclusive values, Yilwatda noted, “The APC is a home for all — whether you joined yesterday, today, or tomorrow, everyone has equal rights and access under our Constitution.”

He also cautioned the caretaker committee against factionalism or personal interests, stressing that the party’s unity and discipline must remain intact as the 2027 general elections approach.
“The NWC has followed due process in dissolving the previous state executive,” Yilwatda said. “You must lead with integrity and treat both friends and foes equally. The oath you took obliges you to act as true leaders of the party.”
With Mbah’s anticipated defection and the mass movement of key officials, the APC looks poised to consolidate its strength in the South-East ahead of the 2027 elections.
