Elon Musk calls on followers to cancel Netflix over transgender content

Tech billionaire Elon Musk has urged his 227 million followers on X to cancel their Netflix subscriptions, accusing the streaming giant of pushing what he called “transgender propaganda.”

The Tesla and SpaceX CEO amplified a campaign initiated by the conservative social media account Libs of TikTok, which cited Netflix’s animated series Dead End: Paranormal Park and the company’s diversity initiatives as reasons for boycotting the platform.

The show’s creator, Hamish Steele, came under fire after conservatives resurfaced social media comments he allegedly made about activist Charlie Kirk, which were widely condemned as offensive and fueled the backlash.

Amid the controversy, Netflix shares slipped two per cent on Wednesday and fell by as much as another two per cent on Thursday on Wall Street.

“Cancel Netflix,” Musk wrote in a Wednesday post, quoting Libs of TikTok. In a follow-up post, he doubled down: “Cancel Netflix for the health of your kids.”

Steele responded to the criticism in now-deleted Bluesky posts, insisting: “It’s all lies and slander!”

Musk’s stance comes against the backdrop of his own personal history with transgender issues. His eldest daughter, Vivian Jenna Wilson, publicly transitioned in 2022, legally changing her name and gender identity. Musk has repeatedly claimed that his daughter was “killed” by what he calls the “woke mind virus” taught in her California school.
