‘Don’t test Trump’s resolve,’ US lawmaker cautions Nigerian government over Christian killings
A United States lawmaker, Riley Moore, has warned the Nigerian Federal Government not to underestimate President Donald Trump’s determination to respond to the continued killings of Christians in the country.
Posting on his X handle on Saturday, Moore stated that President Trump is prepared to take firm action if the violence persists.
“Do not test President Trump’s resolve — he is serious about ending the ongoing slaughter of Christians in Nigeria,” Moore wrote.
He also urged the Nigerian authorities to cooperate with Washington to address the crisis, saying:
“I am asking the Nigerian government to do the right thing and partner with the United States to protect Christians and end the slaughter of our brothers and sisters in Christ.”
In a separate statement on his Truth Social platform last Friday, Trump described Christianity in Nigeria as facing an “existential threat” from radical Islamist groups.
“Thousands of Christians are being killed. Radical Islamists are responsible for this mass slaughter. I am hereby designating Nigeria a ‘country of particular concern,’” he wrote.
Trump further asserted that the United States “cannot stand by while such atrocities are happening,” pledging that his administration would be ready and willing to defend Christians worldwide.
He also directed members of Congress, including Congressman Riley Moore, Chairman Tom Cole, and the House Appropriations Committee, to investigate the situation and report back to him.
On November 1, Trump announced that he had instructed the Pentagon to prepare “options for possible military measures” against terrorist groups in Nigeria — a move he said was intended to protect Christian communities.

Reacting to the development, the Nigerian government dismissed the allegations, with President Bola Tinubu reaffirming that Nigeria guarantees religious freedom and safeguards the rights of all faiths.
Meanwhile, Washington’s threat of possible military intervention has drawn global attention, as world powers such as China and Russia voiced their support for President Tinubu and urged the United States to respect Nigeria’s sovereignty.
