Dino Melaye Quits PDP, Cites Party’s Inability to Tackle Nigeria’s Challenges

Former Senator representing Kogi West, Dino Melaye, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), citing the party’s failure to provide credible leadership or address the country’s critical political issues.
In a letter dated July 4, 2025, and addressed to the PDP Chairman in Ward 1, Aiyetoro Gbede, Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, Melaye announced his immediate exit from all party-related engagements. The resignation letter was shared on Thursday via his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
“I hereby tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party at all levels of involvement,” he stated. “This decision has become necessary due to the party’s evident lack of strength and capacity to rescue Nigerians from the political rot afflicting our nation.”
Melaye, who was the PDP governorship candidate in Kogi State during the 2023 election, said the decision followed a period of sober reflection on the party’s trajectory and relevance.

He said he could no longer, in good conscience, align himself with or promote the party’s current direction. He asked that his resignation be regarded as a total and immediate disengagement from the PDP at all levels.
Melaye ended the letter by thanking the party for the platform and opportunities he had while serving as a member.
