Community Storms Chevron Facility In Delta Over ‘Lack Of Local Employment,’ Disrupts Operations

The protesters chanted and danced round the company’s fence with placards bearing several inscriptions to drive home their demands.

Scores of youths from Ekpan community in the Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State on Monday protested at Chevron Nigeria Limited for allegedly denying the community of employment slots.

The protesters chanted and danced round the company’s fence with placards bearing several inscriptions to drive home their demands.

They insisted that the community was neither hostile to Chevron nor other firms in Ekpan.

The protesters stormed the facility early on Monday, threatening to disrupt its operations.

The workers were left stranded both in and outside the company’s yard.

Some of the protesters accused Chevron of discarding the provisions of the Local Content Act, saying it prescribes the employment of a certain percentage of the workforce from host communities.
