The PDP candidate for Anambra South senatorial seat; Chief Chris Uba, yesterday stormed Nnewi for a town hall meeting, which cuts across party lines.
Following the large turn out of people, both Nnewi PDP members and others of various political backgrounds, the event could not hold in a hall as initially planned, but was moved to DCC field, at the Nkwo triangle Nnewi.
Chief Uba who arrived the venue of the town hall meeting around 4pm, with a mammoth crowd numbering hundreds in attendance, was received along the road by his party’s faithful, especially the women wing; with party insignia, banner showing pictures of all PDP candidates running for different positions from the Presidential candidate; Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Vice Presidential candidate; Mr. Peter Obi, Anambra South senatorial candidate; Chief Chris Uba, the Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency candidate; Engr. Chris Azubogu and the Nnewi North candidate for House of Assembly; Barr. Benchuks Nwosu. Overwhelmed by the support and warm welcome he received, Chief Uba got down from his car from roundabout and walked from there to the venue of the town hall amidst cheers, chants and an excitment that can be touched.
In attendance were Mr. Emma Udegbunam, Prince Chinedu Orizu, Chief Osita Nwosu, Prince Sam Ben, Hon. Benchuks Nwosu who received Chief Chris, among many others. Hon. Chris Azubogu who was campaigning in Nnewi South on hearing the arrival of Chief Chris Uba, rushed down to DCC, although at that time, Chief Uba was already about leaving for another engagement, after the successful town hall.
Speaking, Hon. Benchuks Nwosu reiterated that the PDP deliberately chose men with proven capacities, who can win election and protect their votes, as well as people who are passionate about delivering the dividends of democracy to the people. He described Chief Uba as a man who is true to his words and an avid, meticulous personality, who follows his script to the end, yet unassuming. He then gave a big ram to Chief Chris, in recognition of his political prowess and sagacity and his role in stablizing the PDP for over 10 years and counting.
Prince Sam Ben Nwosu; the Federal Character Commissionner for Anambra State, spoke extensively on why PDP must be voted for all positions. On his part, Emma Udegbunam recalled how Chief Chris has intervened during times of crisis and ensured his release, a gesture he described as characteristic of Chief Chris Uba.
Addressing the crowd after he has gone round to greet each section in their canopy, Chief Chris Uba said Nnewi is his second home. According to him, there is no wealthy and powerful Nnewi son that he does not have good relationship with. He then went on to narrate how he and Chief Cletus Ibeto have come a long way in business and friendship such that he usually drive to Ibeto’s house to eat. Chief Uba further noted that Ibeto is like his own brother because both buys the same clothes and the same cars, for each other.
Going forward, Chief Uba said that he is going to the senate to ensure that the dividends of democracy goes to the people to whom it rightly belongs and not to the pockets of politicians who comes only during election, season to solicit for support, from voters. Speaking on why he joined the race for Anambra South senatorial race, he said he joined to put an end to the recurring situation in which elected senators from the zone fails the expectation of the people and turn their backs on them, till the next election season. He expressed confidence that it is only a man like him can stop those politicians and that he is the only one who can match any other party’s candidate in Anambra South, in any capacity.
Touched by the support of the crowd in their hundreds, he gave them one million Naira cash, to assist with their transportation back to their homes.
On his part, Hon. Chris Azubogu emphasised that Nnewi should support PDP althrough and vote all PDP candidates, as the party offers the brightest political opportunity to both Ndi Nnewi and the Igbo man. He affirmed that Barr. Benchuks Nwosu was begged to come and run for state House for a reason that is in Nnewi’s best interest and then assured that his going back as a ranking member, will bring good political and democratic dividends to our people. According to Hon. Azubogu, he has done all he did because he is an experienced lawmaker and that he is going back to do more. He decried a situation where anyone will jeorpardize Nnewi’s bright political opportunity with PDP, just because of personal interest. He then supported Chief Chris Uba’s gestures, with the sum of three hundred thousand Naira cash, to assist the participants with their transportation back home.
