Cheers as trafficked teenagers arrive Lagos
Putting aside controversies that trailed the initial comment on drug Barons and human traffickers by the Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in the Diaspora Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri Erewa, it’s been all cheers since the teenage Nigerian girls trafficked to Ghana arrived Lagos.
The nine girls arrived at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, following a visit by Hon. Dabiri Erewa who was accompanied by the representatives of the Imo State Governor, Rt. Hon. Chyna Amara Iwuanyanwu (Deputy Speaker of the Imo State House) and Imo State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Mrs Nkechinyere Ugwu.
Dabiri-Erewa disclosed that the rescued girls have been handed over to NAPTIP and to their respective states for rehabilitation and counselling. Meanwhile, the alleged trafficker has been arrested and charged to court in Ghana. That’s good news!
On why more effort should be put into apprehending human traffickers, she said “It’s easier to catch drug couriers because of machines that can detect drug traffickers adding that “There must be a concerted effort to ensure human traffickers are exposed the way drug couriers are. Human Trafficking is now an epidemic Nigeria must declare a war against.”
Some Netizens have applauded the rescue of the girls, urging the government to do more. Here are a few of their comments.
“What is there to say, or do here, other than to say a very big thank you, Madam Abike Dabiri, the good people of Nigerians in Diaspora, Ghana, and to all who have made the return of the trafficked girls possible. The role of the Federal Government is all visible. And, hoping that this should send a red signal to all practicing, and would-be Human traffickers,” a Netizen wrote.
“Meanwhile some people spend their entire life on this App insulting @abikedabiri. God bless you ma and everyone else involved in the rescue of these poor teenage girls,” the Godfather JP reacted.
Madam President, wrote, “But they do know who to call when they run into muddy waters all over the globe. It is Abike they call.”
Replying to madam president’s post, The Godfather JP wrote, “Don’t mind them ma. The unnecessary abuse and vitriol against her is amusing.”
@femiogunleye9 wrote, “They should be sent back to Imo state, they have leaders there as well. Hope Uzodinmma needs a lot of sensitisation to do concerning the usage of Eastern girls as prostitutes. The rate at which prostitutes are being fashioned in the east is out of hand.”
Yooto @MarkYooto reacted, “No, Hope should find them jobs in Europe and America as he promised. Not Ghana. Lol.”
