BREAKING: Wike-led PDP faction expels Makinde, Bode George, others

The internal crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party intensified on Tuesday as the factional National Executive Committee aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, confirmed the expulsion of Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), and Dauda Lawal (Zamfara).

Also expelled were former Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Senator Adolphus Wabara; former National Vice Chairman, Bode George; and the party’s newly elected National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki, SAN.

This decision comes just days after the controversial PDP national convention held last Saturday in Ibadan, where Wike and his allies were themselves expelled from the party.

The tension between both factions erupted into a heated clash on Tuesday at the party’s national secretariat in Wadata Plaza, Abuja, as the two camps convened parallel NEC and Board of Trustees meetings.

During its session on Tuesday at the secretariat, the factional NEC also dissolved the state executive councils in Oyo, Bauchi, Zamfara, Yobe, Lagos, and Ekiti, and ordered the formation of caretaker committees to oversee fresh congresses.

Reading the communiqué, National Secretary Senator Sam Anyanwu said:
“NEC received the report of the Acting National Chairman, Hon. Abdulrahman Mohammed, outlining violations of Articles 58(1) and 59(1), including anti-party activities, disregard for court orders, and actions that have brought the party into disrepute.

“NEC has approved the commencement of disciplinary actions against the following individuals: Adolphus Wabara, Olabode George, Ben N. Obi, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, SAN, Bala Mohammed, Oluseyi Makinde, Dauda Lawal, Taofiq Arapaja, Setonji Koshoedo, Okechukwu Obiechina Daniel, Woyengikuro Daniel, Mohammed Kadade Suleiman, Emmanuel Ogidi, Sumaila Adamu Burga, Umar Sani, Udom Emmanuel, and Emmanuel Enorden.”
