BREAKING: Over 50% of 2025 UTME Candidates Score Below 200 as JAMB Releases Statistical Breakdown

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has released a detailed statistical breakdown of the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) results, revealing that more than half of the candidates—precisely 50.29%—scored between 160 and 199.

Out of a total of 1,955,069 candidates who sat for the exam, only 12,414 candidates (0.63%) scored 300 and above, with just 4,756 of them attaining scores above 320.

A staggering 983,187 candidates fell within the 160–199 range, while 488,197 scored between 140 and 159. Additionally, 2,031 candidates scored below 100.

JAMB disclosed that 40,247 underage candidates were allowed to sit for the exam under an exceptional ability policy, but only 467 (1.16%) met the minimum benchmark for exceptional performance. Their performance in the next three screening stages remains pending.

The board also reported 97 confirmed cases of examination infractions, with 2,157 other candidates under investigation for suspected malpractice. A total of 71,701 candidates were marked absent, while others are undergoing verification due to biometric issues and will be rescheduled.

Some results—such as those of blind candidates and others under special conditions—are still being processed.

JAMB noted that a press conference will be held later this week to provide updates on individual candidate results and result-checking procedures.
