BREAKING: LASU Staff Unions Declare Indefinite Strike Over Unmet Demands

Academic and non-academic staff unions of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, have jointly declared an indefinite strike, effective Thursday, July 31, 2025.

In a memo addressed to the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, the Joint Action Committee (JAC) comprising the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU-LASU), Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU-LASU), Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU-LASU), and National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT-LASU), announced the strike action following a resolution reached at its emergency congress.

The unions stated that the strike would continue indefinitely until all demands made by staff members are addressed by the appropriate authorities.

“Consequently, all members of staff of the University and its affiliate campuses (LASUCOM and LASU Epe Campus) are hereby directed to withdraw their services and vacate their official duty post with immediate effect,” the memo read.

Signed by union leaders, including ASUU-LASU Chairman Prof. Ibrahim A. Bakare, SSANU-LASU Chairman Comrade Olawaseyi Lawal, and others, the statement expressed appreciation to the Vice Chancellor for past support while emphasizing the necessity of the action.
