BREAKING: Cleric Sentenced to Death for Killing Final-Year Student in Kwara

A Kwara State High Court has sentenced a cleric, Abdulrahman Mohad (also known as Mohammed A. Bello), to death for the murder of Lawal Hafsoh Yetunde, a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Education.

 

Justice Hannah Ajayi delivered the judgment on Thursday at the court in Ilorin, ruling that Mohad killed the student for ritual purposes.

 

Four other co-defendants — 41-year-old scholar Ahmed Abulwasiu from Adualere, Ilorin; 28-year-old business operator Sulaiman Muhydeen from Amilegbe, Ilorin; 29-year-old phone repairer Jamiu Uthman from Adualere, Ilorin; and 31-year-old farmer AbdulRahman Jamiu from Elemere, Malete — were discharged and acquitted.

The incident happened on Monday, February 10, 2025, shortly after Hafsoh received a phone call while at a naming ceremony. She subsequently went missing.

 

Following a search by her family and friends, the case was reported at the Oja Oba Police Station the next day. Investigators traced her last call to Mohad, leading to his arrest.

According to the police First Information Report (FIR), the suspect confessed to being part of the same occult group as others initially charged and admitted to robbing and killing the student for ritual purposes.
