Controversial cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has been released from custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) after denying a viral audio recording in which he allegedly claimed to have paid a N15 million bribe to EFCC officials to drop money laundering charges

Bobrisky was detained late Thursday night at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while attempting to board an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight, intending to travel to London.

Bobrisky was detained late Thursday night at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos while attempting to board an Amsterdam-bound KLM flight, intending to travel to London.

After the arrest, he quickly informed his followers on social media, saying he had sustained injuries during the process. Following his detention, Bobrisky was transferred to EFCC headquarters in Abuja for interrogation concerning his alleged bribery accusations against the commission.

In the widely circulated audio recording, released by social commentator Martins Otse, also known as VeryDarkMan, Bobrisky allegedly claimed he had bribed EFCC officials with N15 million to avoid prosecution for money laundering.

However, in a confessional statement made at the EFCCโ€™s headquarters, Bobrisky denied paying any bribe and challenged Otse to justify the recording.

A source familiar with the matter disclosed that Bobrisky denied any money was exchanged and insisted that no EFCC official had solicited a bribe.

โ€œHe denied everything about releasing money to any official as a bribe to drop the money laundering charges against him. He denied it in his statement. He said the fellow who posted the voice note should come over to justify it. He said nobody requested money from him in the EFCC and he didnโ€™t give anyone anything,โ€ the source stated.

Similarly, the EFCC spokesman, Dele Oyewale, confirmed Bobriskyโ€™s release but declined further comments on the case.
