Atiku joins ADC, completes party registration in Adamawa

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has formally enrolled as a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Adamawa State, marking a significant shift in Nigeria’s opposition landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The registration was completed on Monday, days after Atiku informed ADC supporters and key stakeholders in Adamawa of his decision.

Abdul Rasheeth, a media aide to the former vice president, confirmed the development in a statement made available to PUNCH Online.

Images and videos from the event captured the moment Atiku’s convoy entered the town to a jubilant crowd playing drums, singing, and waving placards bearing his portrait.

Atiku acknowledged the cheering supporters from his vehicle as he received his ADC membership card.
Shortly after the event, he posted on X (formerly Twitter), writing: “It’s official. -AA”.

His registration formalises his alignment with the coalition party, which he had publicly backed in July as a unifying platform for opposition leaders—including Peter Obi and Babachir Lawal—to present a formidable challenge to President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

Until now, Atiku and several other opposition figures had held off on officially registering with the ADC.
