Arsenal Prioritise Rodrygo Over Lookman in Winger Search

Arsenal have reportedly made Real Madrid star Rodrygo their top target as they seek to strengthen their attack this summer, despite maintaining an interest in Atalanta’s in-form Nigerian forward, Ademola Lookman.
According to Arsenal News, the Gunners are focused on landing the Brazilian winger, although Rodrygo has not yet indicated a willingness to leave Madrid. The Spanish giants currently value him at around £78 million, but Arsenal are hoping to negotiate a lower fee and are prepared to be patient.
Meanwhile, Corriere della Sera reports that Arsenal remain keen on Lookman as a backup option should their pursuit of Rodrygo fall through. The London club are reportedly willing to offer £43 million plus bonuses for the Nigerian international, though Atalanta are holding out for £52 million, as per Goal.
“Lookman appears to be Arsenal’s Plan B in the event Rodrygo stays at Madrid,” Arsenal News stated. “Although he’s mostly featured as a second striker in Italy, he naturally drifts in from the left and is capable of operating across the frontline. £43m seems reasonable for such a versatile and productive forward.”
Turning 28 in October, Lookman is seen as a player entering his prime and capable of making an immediate impact over the next few seasons.
Since joining Atalanta in 2022, Lookman has revitalised his career, making 118 appearances, scoring 52 goals, and providing 25 assists. He enjoyed a standout 2024/25 campaign, netting 20 goals and recording seven assists, building on a strong 2022/23 season in which he helped the club clinch the UEFA Europa League title.

Prior to his success in Serie A, Lookman had spells in England with Charlton Athletic, Everton, Fulham, and Leicester City, though he scored only 11 goals in 96 Premier League appearances. His resurgence in Italy has since made him a hot prospect once again.
