APGA, Araraume and His Professor of Sycophancy, by Collins Opurozor

After going through what Chief Ifeanyi Araraume’s legitimist, one “Prof.” Tony Oha, wrote about me, I felt sincerely ashamed of our school system in Nigeria which has been pervaded by rot. This decay is not so much about the curricula or the infrastructure but the outright bifurcation of morality from education. And that Oha proudly describes himself as “a well trained educationist” further presents him as emblematic of the cancerous decay in the system.
Reading that piece which is full of antinomies,  I first said to myself, “Nothing stops a professor who writes to justify thuggery, electoral violence and fraud from engaging in forceful sexual extortion of female students or sorting of courses.”
A professor must be an embodiment of virtues, not vices. Since there is nothing virtuous about electoral fraud and since the malfeasance that culminated in Araraume’s claim to the APGA governorship ticket in Imo State could be better described as primitively vicious, a professor that writes in defence of such deserves a place in the motor park, or anywhere else, but certainly not in the school.

I was raised in an educational tradition that placed a premium on character, not just learning, and when “Prof.” Tony Oha said, “Collins Opurozor could have been my student as I began my lecturing career when he might have been a toddler”, I sincerely thanked Providence for not subjecting me to such deformation which an encounter with the Ohas of this world would have entailed.
The fact is that the man feels deeply hurt, even frustrated, by the truth. His personal god and saviour, Chief Ifeanyi Araraume, was depicted in a sincere light in my two previous essays. Having failed to justify the bizarre imposition of a politically waned force as Chief Araraume on Imo APGA, Oha wrote, “The fact remains that no matter how the guber primaries could have been conducted, Senator Araraume could have still won landslide. Most of the aspirants complaining now are not unaware of the political strength of the Lion of Isiebu…(to) march the strength of the incumbent governor who had sworn with his life that his son-in-law must succeed.”
One is left to wonder what strength is left in Araraume that Oha is talking about. It is disgusting that some misinformed people like him still believe that Araraume has money, political structure and contacts to become Imo governor. But the truth is that if money would decide the 2019 governorship election in Imo State, Okorocha, who has pocketed Imo’s FAAC allocations for nearly eight years will have it completely smooth making his son-in-law governor .
To be sure, money is needed to prosecute an election. But anyone who thinks that his personal billions can buy him Douglas House is obviously a very bad student of Imo politics. Udenwa, Ohakim and Okorocha were never the wealthiest of their times. Billionaires like Tony Ezenna (Orange Drugs) were even stopped in 2007 for Ohakim to emerge. APGA stands a chance of gathering more votes without any candidate than with Araraume. He doesn’t represent the expectations of the people in this moment of impunity, insensitivity and abuse of public trust. And because government is a process, and no process is ever divorced from its origin, Imo people have grown further apprehensive about what the future holds for them with a man whose origin in APGA is already enmeshed in impunity, insensitivity and fraud.
Again, what structure does Araraume have that could not make him governor in PDP, ACN, PDP and APC? Which contacts does he have that could not save him from humiliation in the hands of Okorocha?
What courage does Araraume have even when he chickened out of APC in the peak of crisis? How again is a sane person saying that this Araraume who ran away from APC after being defeated by Okorocha is the most qualified person to wrest power from Okorocha in APGA? It is absurd that some also say that he may be a good material for governorship because he doesn’t deceive people who have deals with him. To this category of people Obasanjo said, “Even among armed robbers there must be equity”.
Araraume cannot be governor of Imo State. He cannot fly the governorship flag of APGA. His atrocities must never go unchecked. He is only playing to the gallery as a legendary pretender whose seriousness is more apparent than real.
