PDP Denies Osun Governor Adeleke’s Resignation From Party
The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it has not received any official notice of the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke’s purported resignation, despite widespread circulation of a letter claiming he quit the party.
Speaking to journalists after a National Working Committee (NWC) meeting in Abuja, PDP National Chairman, Kabiru Turaki insisted that no formal communication has been received from Adeleke.
“We have seen online a letter said to be from him resigning from our party, but I tell you that we have not, up to this moment, received any formal indication that he has left,” he said.
Turaki noted that while the online letter has fuelled public discussion, Adeleke’s name remains on the official list of aspirants for the party’s Osun governorship primaries.
Party officials overseeing the election will clarify whether the governor is still participating or has formally withdrawn.
He emphasised that Governor Adeleke, like any citizen, has the constitutional right to decide his political affiliation, but stressed that such decisions do not weaken the party.
“As far as we are concerned, even if the letter circulating online is genuine, Gov. Adeleke, like any Nigerian, has the freedom to associate as he wishes,” Turaki said.
The PDP National Chairman added that the party has survived previous defections and continues to enjoy strong grassroots support.
“Our people have remained with us, and by God’s grace, when elections come, they will show that the PDP is still solid,” he concluded.
