ADC misleading Nigerians, says Obi’s former running mate

The Labour Party’s 2023 vice-presidential candidate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, has criticised the coalition of opposition parties led by the African Democratic Congress, describing it as misleading.
Baba-Ahmed, who contested alongside Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, made the comment during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday.
Responding to a question on his stance regarding the ADC coalition, he said, “They are deceiving us.”
He disassociated himself from the group, stressing that he remains committed to the Labour Party.
“I am a Labour Party man, for God’s sake. I am Peter Obi’s man. I still want Peter Obi to return to the Labour Party and run in 2027,” he declared.
Speaking on the Independent National Electoral Commission’s leadership ahead of the 2027 elections, Baba-Ahmed emphasised the need for credibility and competence. He accused the current leadership of undermining the constitution during the 2023 presidential election, blaming electoral malpractice for many of Nigeria’s challenges.
“Someone who clearly read what the constitution stipulates—25 per cent in at least two-thirds of the states and the FCT—still went ahead to violate it and plunged Nigeria into its current state. Electoral fraud is the most critical issue facing us as a nation, even beyond insecurity. In fact, insecurity stems from electoral fraud, and corruption worsens because of it,” he said.

In reaction, the National Publicity Secretary of ADC, Bolaji Abdullahi, dismissed Baba-Ahmed’s comments.
“When he begins to make sense, we will respond,” Abdullahi told our correspondent.
