17 Killed’, Several Injured as Gunmen Attack Returning IDPs in Taraba
At least 17 people have reportedly been killed in Tse Ajogo village, Wukari LGA of Taraba State, after suspected Jukun militia launched a coordinated attack on returning Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).
According to Zagazola Makama, a counter-terrorism publication, eight others were injured in the assault, which occurred around 6 a.m. on Wednesday, December 10.
The attackers were said to have stormed the village, firing indiscriminately at residents and IDPs. Several people remain missing, and seven houses were razed during the onslaught.
Sources cited in the report said this is the second attack on returning IDPs in Tse Ajogo in less than two months. The community, located about four kilometres from Rafin Kada town, is described as particularly vulnerable to militia incursions.
The assailants were reportedly heavily armed and executed the attack in a manner designed to inflict significant casualties and disrupt ongoing resettlement efforts.
Authorities have urged heightened vigilance and called on security forces to intensify patrols along major routes to protect returning communities. Efforts are underway to track and neutralise the attackers.
Residents of Tiv communities in the state have been advised to remain alert and report suspicious activity, while prayers have been offered for peace in the affected areas.
