BREAKING: Nnamdi Kanu’s lawyer Aloy Ejimakor collapses in Kuje prison
Aloy Ejimakor, special counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has collapsed in Kuje Prison in Abuja. This development comes 24 hours after the presiding judge, Abubakar Umar Sai’id, refused to sign the bail bond for his release.
According to report, Ejimakor’s lawyer, Barrister Maxwell Opara, was unable to meet with him during a routine visit, and sources indicate he may be transferred to a hospital.
The incarcerated lawyer was arrested on Monday with 12 others, including Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, Prince Emmanuel Kanu, for participating in the #FreeNnamdiKanuNow protest. The duo were reportedly teargassed and beaten before being detained.
Ejimakor is currently receiving medical attention from nurses at the Kuje Correctional center, with his condition reportedly deteriorating.
We have previously reported that the lead counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, Kanu Agabi, had applied to withdraw from representing him, stating that the defendant had taken the case back from them.
The embattled IPOB leader informed the court that he would be representing himself for now, though that might change later.
When the judge asked if he should be assigned a lawyer, Kanu rejected the offer. Defending himself orally, Kanu argued that the court lacks the jurisdiction to try him
