BREAKING: Nnamdi Kanu’s Legal Team Withdraws from Trial

Kanu Agabi, former Attorney-General of the Federation and lead counsel to the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, on Thursday applied to withdraw his appearance from the ongoing terrorism trial at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Kanu is currently facing a seven-count terrorism charge filed by the Federal Government.
At Thursday’s proceedings, Agabi informed the court that he and his team would no longer represent Kanu, noting that the defendant had chosen to take over the case personally. Following his lead, all other Senior Advocates of Nigeria on the defence team also announced their withdrawal.
Confirming the development, Kanu told the court he would be representing himself for now, though he may reconsider later. When Justice James Omotosho offered to assign him a lawyer, Kanu declined the offer.
Opening his defence, Kanu argued that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case. The judge had earlier granted him six consecutive days, starting October 23, to present and conclude his defence.
Among those Kanu listed as witnesses are former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami; FCT Minister Nyesom Wike; Minister of Works Dave Umahi; Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu; former Chief of Army Staff Gen. Tukur Buratai (rtd); and former Minister of Defence Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (rtd), among others.
