Why Nigerians are suffering — Aregbesola
Former Osun State Governor and National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, has attributed Nigeria’s worsening economic hardship to the failures of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing it of driving the nation into hunger, insecurity, and infrastructural collapse.
Speaking on Saturday during the inauguration of the ADC Secretariat in Ilorin, Kwara State, Aregbesola said the APC-led government had mismanaged the country through “incompetence, greed, and poor leadership,” leaving citizens in distress.
“Under the current administration, hunger has taken over the land. Governance has become an avenue for personal enrichment and political oppression. Nigerians are suffering because of leadership failure at all levels under the APC,” he said.
He further accused the ruling party of silencing opposition voices and weaponizing state power against critics.
“If the APC truly believes in its popularity, it would not be harassing opposition members across the country,” Aregbesola added.
The former governor described the ADC as “a party of conscience and service,” expressing optimism that widespread dissatisfaction with the APC would boost the ADC’s chances in the 2027 elections.
“The anger Nigerians feel toward the ruling party is evident, and the ADC will be the one to harness that discontent,” he declared.
Also speaking at the event, former Kwara State Governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, said the unveiling of the ADC Secretariat symbolized “a new political direction” for the state.
“This marks the beginning of a new chapter in Kwara’s political history. The ADC is committed to representing the true aspirations of the people,” Ahmed stated.
The ADC National Publicity Secretary and former Minister of Youth and Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, also dismissed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as “a dead party awaiting burial,” saying the ADC remains the only credible alternative to the APC.
“The question is no longer whether Kwarans want the APC—they don’t. What remains is to show them that the ADC is the real alternative, and that’s what we will do ahead of the elections,” Abdullahi said.

He further lamented the growing insecurity in rural parts of Kwara, noting that it has crippled farming and other livelihood activities.
“Our people can no longer go to their farms safely. The government must act urgently to restore peace and protect citizens’ lives,” he added.
