Enugu Governor Peter Mbah joins APC

Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Mbah announced his defection at a press conference held on Tuesday in Enugu, where he said the move was driven by his commitment to advancing the state’s development and aligning with a national vision for growth.

The governor explained that joining the APC was a carefully considered decision aimed at fostering “a visionary partnership” that would deliver transformative change to both Enugu State and Nigeria.

“Today, after a long period of reflection, we have decided to leave the PDP and join the APC,” Mbah declared. “We share a vision that transformation must be disruptive. I have found in His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a partner in purpose—someone with the courage to make the tough decisions that guarantee lasting prosperity.”

Mbah, who was joined by his predecessor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, alongside state and federal lawmakers, council chairmen, and political appointees, described the defection as a collective step by Enugu’s political leadership. He said over 80% of party executives and other political officeholders in the state supported the move.

He expressed confidence that the decision would give Enugu and the South-East a stronger voice at the federal level, adding, “This is not a whimsical decision; it represents the collective will of our political family.”

While expressing gratitude to the PDP for the platform that brought him to power, Mbah lamented that the South-East’s loyalty to the party had often gone unacknowledged.

“To the PDP, I extend deep appreciation for the support during our campaign and victory. However, it is clear that despite our unwavering commitment, our voices were too often disregarded,” he said.

Mbah concluded by expressing optimism that his alignment with the APC would open a new chapter of progress and prosperity for Enugu State and Nigeria as a whole.
