2027: I’ll Recontest Lagos Governorship but Will Back APC’s Choice – Jandor

Abdulazeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in Lagos State during the 2023 elections, has announced his intention to contest for the state’s top seat again in 2027.
Jandor, who returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in March after leaving the PDP over what he described as indiscipline and anti-party activities, made the declaration on Thursday during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
“What you heard yesterday was simply us re-emphasising our determination to once again go for the same seat we contested in the last elections,” he said. “There is no vacancy in Aso Rock until 2031, so the focus is on Lagos. We are keeping our eyes on the ball, mobilising support for the party across the state. At the end of the day, whoever the party presents will have our backing, but for me, I am running in 2027 and have so declared.”
Reacting to suggestions that his name is missing from those considered as potential successors to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Jandor stressed that he had not deployed proxies to campaign on his behalf. “I’ve not heard anyone officially declare yet. My name is not being mentioned because I speak for myself, and I’ve come out clearly to say I’m contesting,” he stated.
He acknowledged other possible contenders within the APC, including Seyi Tinubu, former governor Akinwunmi Ambode, and Senator Tokunbo Abiru, describing them as qualified. However, he noted that aside from Ambode, none of them had experienced being on the ballot for Lagos governorship.
“As someone who went through that process singlehandedly without backing, imagine the difference this time if I have the solid support of the president and the party. It would be a walkover,” Jandor said.

He added that regardless of the outcome of the primaries, he would support the APC’s chosen candidate. “If, at the end of the day, the leadership of the party decides on another aspirant, we will all fall in line and work for that candidate,” he affirmed.
